The building was
designed for operation by the University as a child care center for
employees and students of the University. Additionally, it is to be
a place where students in Education and Child Development can observe
child care via a series of observation rooms in the building. The building
was also designed to provide a home-like
ambiance
and appearance with a series of pitched roof forms, large roof overhangs,
and a series of large porches to allow the programs to move outdoors
as well as occur indoors. Likewise, the interior finishes are-home like
and include details and materials as found in most homes.
During the course
of the project the decision was made to provide for the child care function
via a contract with an established care provider in Ohio. The firm provided
services to modify the design of a portion of the building to respond
to the change in methods of child care and included a food preparation
area.
